Driving Packaging Innovation in the Supply Chain to Keep the Value Proposition

Chairs: John Kalkowski, Editorial Director, Packaging Digest and Ricardo Ruiz de Gopegui, Director - Packaging Advanced Research, PEPSICO

Packaging sustainability requires constant innovation to maintain the value proposition of the package, the product, and the consumer perception. The road to innovation is not always an easy one to walk: for a consumer products company it's a process that begins with the incubation of ideas, how to move them forward, the difficulties faced when it comes to testing and quantifying and then it's time to sell the concept of sustainable packaging as a potential of profit to converters, suppliers and retailers.

This opening session will be a "behind the scenes" on this innovation process: we will hear case studies from brand owners like Pepsi, SC Johnson and Nestle, as well as Havi's view on the topic. They all come from different angles, with different experiences like the Green Bottle, the new Mini-Windex packaging and the developments in the wellness industry to make this opening session a very interesting one to set the tone for the rest of the conference.

Companies from all parts of the supply chain are working together to achieve even more with packaging sustainability. Key leaders in this trend include the Coca Cola PlantBottle and its work with Heinz; McDonald's, as one of the world's largest fast food chains, works with a number of different partners to broaden their sustainability initiatives and Hewlett Packard has been actively engaged in sustainability initiatives and projects.
